Triangle Studios released a new developer update for the upcoming release of Truck Driver on Steam for PC. The new developer diary showcases some of the progress they’ve made in key areas, as well as certain updates and fixes that have been made leading up to the game’s release on Steam.

The six minute development update starts with the parking mechanics, and how the trailer parking system works in the game. Triangle Studios CEO, Remco De Rooij, went over the functionality of the system, which relies on a trailer indicator for your truck, and it changes from yellow to green once you’ve aligned the trailer and managed to get it in the appropriate parking space.

The parking zones will change depending on the location, and there’s a parking accuracy reward system where the more accurate you are with parking the truck the higher the rewards.

You can see how the parking works in the game with the video below.

Rooij also discussed the scrapping the old garage UI for the truck editor. Even though the old system was complete he briefly explained why they ended up replacing it after receiving feedback from the gaming audience.

In the original editor there were complaints that the user interface was too difficult to navigate, and that the categories weren’t very clear. So they overhauled the editor so that there’s a much simpler UI setup so players can very easily change the parts on the truck and the color of the truck with ease. It reminds me a lot of SRS Studios’ Euro Truck Simulator, so a lot of gamers should be right at home with the new editor layout and the UI navigation tool to customize your truck.

The video also covers one of the more serious aspects of the development process: overhauling the game’s world map.

Triangle Studios wasn’t entirely confident in the original map layout that they had, so during the beta stage they decided to scrap it and redo it. They felt that it needed to feel a lot more organic, fun to drive in and grounded in a sense of feeling both organic and alive.

It was a risky move but it looks like the map is quite detailed and based on what little they’ve showcased in the videos it appears to have a lot of winding, twisting, and unique roads to drive around within the fictional world.

There’s still no release date on when Truck Driver will release on Steam, but it’s apparently coming soon. You can keep up to date with the game’s development by visiting the Паровий магазин сторінка або відвідавши Офіційний сайт.
