Трейлер запуску QUBE 2 готується до випуску 13 березня на Xbox One, PS4, ПК

Toxic Games випустили новий трейлер QUBE 2 featuring some of the gameplay and story elements in preparation for the March 13th launch on PC, Xbox One and PS4 for $24.99.

The first-person puzzle adventure game works as a sequel to the original QUBE, which came out back in 2011. It’s hard to believe it’s been seven years since then, but Toxic Games took that time to work on the sequel, brush up the gameplay elements, improve the physics, add a lot of 4D cognitive problem solving that Trump would be proud of, and decided to slap a dash of story on top while attempting to pay lip service to feminists by making the main protagonist a female.

You can check out the launch trailer for QUBE 2 below, which clocks in at just under a minute and a half.

The trailer starts with the main character, archaeologist Amelia Cross, screaming for help on a foreign planet while wearing the actuation suit. Unlike the first game there’s a very strong narrative element to the first-person puzzle solving game this time around.

Dan Da Rocha, the managing director at Toxic Games, mentioned in the press release that as an indie studio they didn’t just want to do another mechanically-improved sequel, they wanted to take the risk of going all in on a narrative-driven experience, saying…

“In addition to creating incredible new puzzles, we also focused on narrative from this game’s inception. Amelia’s emotional journey throughout the adventure has given the puzzles a greater thematic depth and spurred us on to design some truly unique challenges. We think this has truly elevated the gameplay experience of Q.U.B.E. 2 to another level.”

As some of you know, the implementation of story-heavy elements in games that typically don’t have stories is a huge risk that could either pay off (like with Портал) or ruin the game with narrative dissonance (like with Повстання Raider Tomb). We’ll see which category Toxic Games manages to fall into.

The trailer focuses more on Amelia being trapped in a strange world while attempting to not only discover what’s going on but also find a way back to safety. Small pieces of the trailer showcase the physics-based puzzle solving mechanics that players will have to contend with as they make their way through 11 chapters of Toxic Games’ puzzle-heavy world.

Interestingly enough, Nintendonites are not in the comment section begging for the game. That’s a first.
